Good news everyone – you can be transported to and from your terminal in Cancun Airport to the Maya Train station, and what’s more, it will cost you absolutely nothing!

Officially opened last month, the Maya Train has slowly but surely been making ground in southeastern Mexico, with initial routes between Cancun and Campeche already seeing a large number of passengers using the service.

As the Mexican Caribbean and Yucatan Peninsula continue to welcome record-breaking numbers of tourists each year, the region has been in desperate need of an affordable, large-scale transport system to meet the high demand.

Expected to be fully operational by the end of February 2024, the service is set to open and unlock everything the region has to offer, from ancient Mayan ruins, stunning beach locations, and endless ‘magical towns.’

But before all of that, getting to use the service from the moment you land at Cancun Airport could not be more easy…

Free Transport Service At Cancun Airport

Cancun International Airport is large in scale and the busiest in all of southeastern Mexico.

Being one of the most popular destinations for tourists wanting to visit Latin America, the airport saw more than 12 million international travelers arrive at its doorstep in 2023.

With so many passengers traveling in and out of the location, some are missing the fact that a free transportation service can be boarded when arriving at the airport at specific times that will take them directly to the Maya Train Station.

What Popular Places Can You Visit On The Maya Train?

Cancun is the obvious popular choice for tourists using the Maya Train, as it is home to the beautiful beaches and stunning luxury resorts that it is known for around the world.

Perfect for beginning your journey into the wider world of the Yucatan Peninsula, you are sure to experience picture-perfect coastlines, the hustle and bustle of the famous hotel zone, and some tasty Mexican food when all the fun works up your appetite.

Cancun is near some pretty exciting attractions and locations, some of which have their own Maya Train stations as well, such as Chichen Itza and the safest city in Latin America, Merida.

Merida is home to some amazing colonial architecture and is brimming with Mayan culture through its charming cobblestone streets.

The traditions come alive both from the unique Yucatecan dishes served in the abundance of different restaurants and eateries, as well as from the people keen to share them with visitors.

Much further away is another popular location along the Maya Train route and that is the city of Campeche.

Perfect for the history lovers among you, Campeche is littered with historic architecture, museums, and a wall that was once used to protect the city (now recognized by UNESCO).

From February 29th, the Maya Train will also connect passengers to Tulum, another popular destination that is becoming ever more so thanks to its new international airport and newfound luxury-wellness reputation.

Before you hop in into this thing, please do your research. The train has many failures that can leave stalled for hours in middle of nowhere. Also is not cheap and incredibly slow as it is not a high speed train but regular 80km /hr at most train.
