So far, four sections of the Maya Train route have begun to operate, with the route covering much of the western and northern portions of the Yucatan Peninsula.
Now the inauguration of the first part of section five is just days away, and the excitement of being able to travel along the coast from Cancun to Playa del Carmen by train is undoubtedly growing.
As the date draws nearer, it’s a good time to go over five things that you’ll want to know about the new Cancun to Playa del Carmen Maya Train route.
Inauguration Date
The next inauguration date for the Maya Train is less than two weeks away.
It will be Section 5 North of the route which includes a total of seven sections.
The route, which will begin operations on February 29th, will run from Cancun down to Playa del Carmen.

Schedule
The schedule for the new Cancun to Playa del Carmen Maya Train route will include both morning and afternoon trips departing from both locations.
The schedule for the Cancun to Playa del Carmen route will include departures at 9:00 am, 12:00 pm, and 3:00 pm.
The schedule for the Playa del Carmen to Cancun route will include departures at 10:30 am, 1:30 pm, and 4:30 pm.

Location Of The Playa Del Carmen Maya Train Station
To the dismay of travelers and locals, the Playa del Carmen Maya Train Station is not centrally located within the city but outside of town.
It’s situated out past the Villas Del Sol community, about 25 minutes from Playa del Carmen’s beaches.
Due to its location, and the fact that there are no established transportation providers to transfer passengers from the station to central Playa del Carmen, passengers will need to hire a taxi for the trip.

Where To Buy Tickets
While tickets are not yet available for the Cancun to Playa del Carmen route, they will likely be sold on the Maya Train website ahead of the route’s inauguration.
You can find that site here.
Ticket prices for the new route have not yet been announced.
The Charming Town You Can See Along The Way
Not only will the Section 5 North Maya Train route take you to the popular vacation destination of Playa del Carmen, but it will have a stop along the way in Puerto Morelos as well.
Although there is little information, there will be a station here at some point.
This charming town was once a fishing village and still exudes that small-town charm.
It’s known for its impressive cenotes, beautiful beaches, and the fascinating Puerto Morelos Reef National Park, popular among snorkelers and divers.

Things To Do In Playa Del Carmen
There is no shortage of things to do in Playa del Carmen, and there’s something for everyone.
Whether you want to spend your vacation relaxing on the beach, dining on authentic Mexican food and fresh seafood, shopping for locally made goods and souvenirs, exploring nature, or partying the evenings away, it can all be done in Playa del Carmen.

When You’ll Be Able To Travel From Playa Del Carmen To Tulum
An exact date for the southern end of Section 5 of the Maya Train, going from Playa del Carmen to Tulum, has not yet been announced.
According to Mexico’s president, though, the entire route will be completed by June.
Only time will tell when you’ll be able to take the train to Tulum, but it won’t be long before you can take it to Playa del Carmen.
