International trips are growing exponentially this holiday season, accounting for 21 percent of bookings, when compared to last year when they accounted for 11 percent, according to Allianz Partners USA annual survey, an award-winning travel insurance and assistance company.

As all eyes watch the Mexican Caribbean inaugurate two huge infrastructure projects that are set to change the landscape of tourism in the Yucatan Peninsula ( Tulum International Airport and the Maya Train), Cancun remains the firm favorite for Americans, ranking number one on the survey for an impressive sixth year in 2023.

While places like Tulum and Playa del Carmen are seeing newfound popularity among tourists, Cancun still seems to be the obvious choice for most, with its airport continually inundated with flights and passengers for being the most convenient and close to the abundant list of things to see and do.

Flying To Cancun

As mentioned above, Cancun Airport is set to see record-breaking numbers of flights and passengers this winter season, with close to 650 flights a day.

Popular airlines such as American Airlines have just recently announced an expansion of flights from popular U.S cities to the sought-after tourist destination to catch the boom of travelers hungry for some holiday fun abroad.

Obviously, booking during the peak winter high season will be more expensive than other times of the year, and booking well in advance of traveling is always recommended, but there are still deals to be found, if you know where to look, that won’t leave you breaking the bank.

Cancun has something for absolutely every price range and budget, making it accessible to every kind of tourist.

What is great about Cancun is that once you book your flight and accommodation, everything you could ever want is right at your fingertips; beaches, historical attractions and amazing amenities, meaning you don’t have to spend more money traveling far away from your hotel base.

Convenience is a massive draw for Americans, and Cancun offers exactly that!

Luxury Accommodation Options

The trend of ‘revenge’ travel seems to be taking hold, with many Americans keen to splash the cash when it comes to booking their vacations to make up for lost time during the pandemic years when travel was practically non-existent.

Cancun is abundant in luxury accommodation and continues to grow its offerings, with huge hotel chains such as Hilton and Hyatt opening new all-inclusive resorts just this year to meet the growing demand from tourists.

These resorts go above and beyond the norms of hotel stays, offering tourists everything they could ever want right at their doorstep.

This is a huge draw for vacationers, who have food and drink included in the price of the reservation, as well as top-notch spa amenities, an endless amount of gourmet restaurant options, and often private beach access.

Also located within the infamous hotel zone, these luxury accommodation options are a safe bet for Americans who know they are going to be well looked after, as well as being protected by 24-hour security services that exist on site (though any crime activity is rare in that area).

Escaping The Cold Winter Weather

One thing is for certain; you are guaranteed stunning weather when traveling to Cancun this winter season.

With most Americans keen to escape the winter blues, the Mexican Caribbean draws visitors for being a consistently sunny destination, perfect to spend your days at the endless amount of beach destinations and outdoor attractions.

Cancun is known for having the most Blue Flag-awarded beaches in Mexico, an award given for beaches that are kept in pristine condition, meet sustainability measures, and remain accessible to both locals and tourists all year round.

Perfect for the sun worshippers among you, the hot Mexican climate is perfect for enjoying this holiday season, with the sugary white sands and crystal blue waters of the Mexican Caribbean on offer, looking like something out of a postcard.

Christmas in Cancun has a certain ring to it, and you can be sure that the festive spirit is very much celebrated here.

The restaurant areas will be brightly decorated with festive decorations and specially themed menus so you can enjoy Christmas away from home, and the destination will also host several events on the lead-up to the big day that should not be missed.
