How To Get A Refund As Maya Train Operations Suspended Until January

Last Updated

The new Maya Train that recently began operating on December 15th launched with great response, with tickets selling out within minutes of going on sale.

Shortly after that inaugural ride, additional dates and times were announced, and tickets again were bought up quickly.

Now, those ticket holders might be regretting that purchase because multiple rides along that first section have been canceled, but we’ll tell you how to get a refund now that Maya Train operations are suspended until January.

The Maya Trains Inauguration

The Maya Train route consists of seven individual sections and is being launched in segments.

The first section to begin operating was the Cancun to Campeche route.

The next route to follow is the Cancun to Palenque section, which is scheduled to begin operating on January 1st and will be followed by the Cancun to Tulum section in February.

At that time, the much-anticipated project will finally be complete.

Section Suspended

It is the Cancun to Campeche section, a route that includes many amazing stops along the way, that will be suspended for the remainder of the year.

Fortunately for those who are excited about the opportunity to ride on the new train, that suspension will only last for four days, from December 28th through the 31st.

So while the cancelation of the rides on those days doesn’t have a huge effect on travelers, those who bought tickets for those days will have to seek out a refund for their purchased tickets.

Reasons For The Suspension

Few details were given regarding the reason for the suspension.

On social media, the only explanation provided was that it was “due to the pre-opening of the new Cancun to Palenque route.”

No information was provided as to what the already operating route has to do with the opening of the new route.

How To Get A Refund If You Bought Tickets

The announcement that was made regarding the suspension of the Cancun to Palenque route was given only minutes before the next ride was scheduled.

At that time officials provided an email for ticket holders to contact for a refund.

That email is [email protected]

The Pre Opening Of The Next Section

While the cancelation is no doubt frustrating for Maya Train ticket holders, there is a silver lining for those who bought tickets.

In the follow-up of the initial announcement, officials made it clear that these ticket holders would be given priority in purchasing when the new section of the Maya Train begins operating.

Currently, that date is set for January 1st.

Tickets For The Maya Train

Tickets for the new section of the Maya Train that will open on January 1st are not yet for sale on the Maya Train ticket sales website.

They will likely be sold on that same site, so if you’re eager to be one of the first passengers on this new route you’ll want to check back for a date that sales will begin.

Pricing for the new section has not been announced yet, but for the first section to open tickets were priced at around $67 for economy class and $107 for premier class.

Sites To See Along The Cancun To Palenque Section

If you’re like most travelers, you’re patiently waiting to explore all that there is to see along the Maya Train route, and who can blame you?

The train will allow us to explore the entire Yucatan Peninsula.

Just along the Cancun to Palenque section alone, you’ll be able to see fascinating Mayan ruins like Uxmal and Chichen Itza, charming Magic Towns like Valladolid, Sisal, and Candelaria, and numerous exciting sights in between.
