Maya Train Ticket Sales On The Cancun-Palenque Route Suspended Until Further Notice

Share The Article

Ticket sales for the Cancun to Palenque Maya Train route have been temporarily suspended following significant technical issues along the new route last Friday.

Officials have decided to stop operating the route until further notice as workers carry out inspections to determine the cause of the malfunction. On Friday, travelers were left waiting for hours due to technical faults on the new Maya Train route, promoting concern over the system’s safety and reliability.

Although the new railway system was partially opened for travelers in mid-December last year, technical issues have led to multiple delays, dampening expectations over the costly project.

With travel to Cancun set to grow over the following weeks, here’s a look at the latest Maya Train chaos

Online Maya Train Ticket Sales Halted Amid Technical Concerns

Several sections of the Maya Train are officially up and running – with the exception of the Cancun-Palenque route. The track has experienced significant technical faults, most recently last Friday, when an unknown issue caused passengers to be delayed for over six hours.

During the incident, passengers were left waiting inside the carriage for hours without air conditioning and updates from the conductor as to the reason behind the delay. Frustrated passengers were ultimately transported via bus to a nearby station.

The massive delay caused concern from fellow passengers on social media, who have already become accustomed to frequent delays and technical difficulties faced by the Maya Train.

The latest incident has only worsened these concerns. Combined with poor communication and growing delays, many travelers are wondering if the Maya Train will live up to its hype.

The Cancun to Palenque section of the Maya Train has thus far seen huge interest from travelers, with tickets occasionally selling out online. But with more and more technical delays, visitors will still have to wait some time for the railway system to become fully operational.

No official timeline has been given for when tickets will be sold again, as experts continue to investigate the malfunction that left passengers stranded for several hours last Friday. Until then, travelers are urged to consult the official Maya Train website for updates.

Meanwhile, work on the remaining sections of the Maya Train continues to advance at a steady pace. According to the latest estimates, the 5th, 6th, and 7th sections of the multi-billion dollar infrastructure project could be up and running by late February.

Travelers are already looking forward to the increased mobility promised by the Maya Train, with the new Cancun airport to Tulum route expected to become extremely popular once officially inaugurated.

In the meantime, authorities are working on a host of new infrastructure upgrades to enable the Maya Train to work correctly, including improvements to highways, train stations, and bus routes.

The remaining sections of the Maya Train will have a huge impact on the Mexican Caribbean’s travel industry, allowing visitors to reach unexplored swathes of territory beyond all-inclusive hotspots.

From Tulum’s ancient Mayan ruins to Chetumal’s bustling cultural scene, the Maya Train opens up new possibilities for travelers, especially given the poor number of transportation options currently available for travelers.

Visitors are urged to pre-book their Maya Train tickets online. Tickets can be purchased from the official Maya Train website.

Tickets are gradually going on sale as more sections of the railway system are completed. So far, over 20,000 travelers have already ridden the Maya Train, despite ongoing concerns over the system’s reliability.
