Just as predicted, the Mexican Caribbean is off to another blinding start of the year, welcoming huge numbers of tourists to the destination.
During the first week of March alone, a couple of weeks out of the spring break period, 538,000 visitors arrived in Quintana Roo, proving that its popularity shows no sign of slowing down.
Spring In The Mexican Caribbean
As swathes of tourists emerge from the cold winter months, most especially from America, they all have their eyes set on the Mexican Caribbean, which is sure to guarantee them a vacation of a lifetime.
Most of the major hotspots in Quintana Roo such as Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and Tulum have seen a consistent occupancy rate of 85 percent these past few months, which is pretty impressive.
March is the usual time when “spring breakers” add to these numbers, traveling mainly to Cancun for some much-needed fun.
This could mean that occupancy levels reach 87.8 percent in the Riviera Maya and 87.4 percent in Cancun, followed closely by Isla Mujeres.
Each of these destinations offers something different for tourists and continues to add more exciting attractions every year.
Increased Security Measures In Quintana Roo
These areas are also increasing their safety measures in an attempt to prevent incidents such as drownings, which have occurred over the past few days due to the high influx of tourists.
Due to the danger of stronger waves and riptides, lifeguard coverage will increase on popular beaches like Playa Defines.
As more tourists arrive at these beaches, it is important that they be properly managed by lifeguards.
They will be readily available to give any information about the status of their beaches and anything tourists should be watching out for on that day.
To ensure the safety of all tourists, more police patrols and increased CCTV coverage will also be implemented, which has proven effective during previous peak seasons in Quintana Roo.
Sargassum Update
Good news for all of those traveling to Cancun and the surrounding areas this spring break, as sargassum levels remain controlled, a stark difference from last year.
Sargassum levels are reportedly down by half in major hotspots like Cancun, and this can most likely be attributed to the work of the Navy, which has installed anti-sargassum barriers on the coast and been tasked with collecting the smelly seaweed so it doesn’t ruin the beautiful beach landscapes.
That is not to say that it isn’t there at all; the first signs of it in Cancun arrived about two weeks ago, but action is being taken swiftly to avoid the situation getting out of control.
Why You Should Book Summer In Advance
If the above figures are anything to go by, Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean are expected to have another scorcher of a summer—and we are not just talking about the weather…
For Americans, Cancun is the number one destination due to its convenience and trusted vacation offerings.
Though of course, the weather is a huge factor in this, with temperatures comfortably sitting in the 90’s for most of the season, things like its newfound connectivity with the Maya Train and endless popular attractions are what makes it a cut above the rest.
By the time summer comes around, the Maya Train is expected to be fully operational, connecting tourists from Chiapas, Palenque to Tulum and beyond!
Now, visitors have the opportunity to pick Cancun as their base but travel far and beyond the hotel zone for a very affordable price, allowing them to return to their resort by evening.
Furthermore, Cancun’s air connectivity continues to grow, with new flight paths and increased services constantly announced.
This is good news for tourists, as airline companies end up offering deals in order to catch the most visitors, making it cheaper for them!
That’s why now is the time to book for summer; you can find the deals, avoid attractions and the Maya Train selling out before you get there, and make your next vacation to the Mexican Caribbean totally stress-free!
